Promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing wishes to congratulate two of his Puerto Rican fighters, Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez and Jorge “Machito” Maysonet Jr., for their impressive victories this month.

Fighting in the co-featured bout on ShoBox: The New Generation, February 17, at Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California, and televised live on SHOWTIME®, Gonzalez (15-0, 13 KOs), of San Juan, opened the telecast with a well-earned unanimous 10-round decision (scores: 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93) over tough veteran Billy Lyell (24-11-2, 5 KOs).

“I couldn't believe how strong he was,' said a gracious Lyell about Gonzalez, post-fight.

And fighting at the Coliseo Salvador Dijols in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Catano, Puerto Rico’s Maysonet (6-0, 5 KOs) made quick work of countryman Jasey Montalvo, taking him out in 2:16 of the first round.

“Both these guys were impressive,” said the proud Margules. “Jonathan is rated by three of the four world bodies now and looks to be rounding into title shot form. Jorge continues to demolish opponents at this stage of his career, so we’ll start stepping him up now and see how he responds. I’m very happy with both of their progress.”

Gonzalez is scheduled to be back in action on April 14, when he takes on Mexico’s formidable Freddy Hernandez (30-2, 20 KOs) in the night’s main event. Venue is still TBA.

Jonathan Gonzalez and Jorge Maysonet Jr. are both co-promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, Universal Promotions and Warriors Boxing.
